Which Way To Go?

October 24th, 2007 · No Comments

I’ve seen more Yahoo! bashing over the past few months than all of the times during the online crush from 2001-2003…

Check out this article on Yahoo’s new strategy direction from Eric Auchard of Reuters.

The good news is that Yahoo! seems to be returning to their original roots of providing tech tools that help you generate content rather than providing content. The question should be whether or not it’s too late for a strategic change with Facebook and Google’s applications in the mix and in the buzz.

From the words of Yahoo! CEO, Jerry Yang, “Openness is upon us…There is an opportunity for Yahoo as a huge publisher to play the open game and do that as a strategy.” Let’s hope that Yahoo! goes back to their original roots and focuses upon developing tech tools to get things done.

It doesn’t take long to remember that their tools and their free access to tools is what made Yahoo! great for years for users not their content. The good thing for ad sales is that there will be a direction toward creating tools that people want to use…That’s fun to sell and buy.

Don’t count these guys out…
