Full Tilt “Carolina Funk”

November 6th, 2007 · No Comments

Ding, ding…ding. Here comes another nugget from the Hill again. Full-Tilt style…

WXYC has pumped out chunks of full flavorful personalities over the years, and Jason Perlmutter is one of them.

A short four years ago, he was scouring garage sales in Greensboro and Henderson and ruling eBay auctions while walking around with a old-school record box filled with 45s and his tattered dark blue and white Air Jordans (Where the hell he got those…I still do not know.) Now, he has released a full-flex coveted combination of rare funk tracks from North Carolina and South Carolina.

The release is from JazzMan Records in the UK, and the American release will be on Stones Throw Records early next year.  Yet, believe me peoples…Get up on this one. This guy knows his stuff.

All tracks are licensed and restored. Some of the original copies have sold for $1000 and more, and the album contains a 24 page booklet with pictures and stories.  Check out more album info here at JazzMan Records and grab one.

I knew something was about to pop with him after he wrote an incredible article on funk from the Carolinas that appeared in a WXYC newsletter, which was a hard find in the Hill. (On my end, I’m hoping that he publishes that one online…What a great reference tool.)

In the meantime, Jason will have records to sell at his record release party on Friday, November 16 at the infamous sweat-filled basement bar that is aptly named Hell in Chapel Hill.

He’ll have records to sell, and you’ll be able to grab one at a discount without the exchange rate at the door…;)

Personally, I’ll be there in full sway…I’m going to hit this party like I’m heading to the first Ali-Frazier I at Madison Square Garden. I may even have to bring a camera in a Sintraesque-Miles Davis kind of way…

Major thumbs up for this buy and major kudos to Jason Perlmutter on this release. Grab this one…Funk, move, and learn.

P.S. I never knew the Venus Fly Trap was native to NC…See there you go…W-X-Y-C!
