This is one of the wildest stories that I’ve heard in quite some time in Chapel Hill…
I don’t know whether to laugh or cringe. Check out the national story from SI here. Here’s the N&O version.
From the looks of things, this is really strange. Check out this quoted report in the N&O.
“In one account given in court Thursday, one player said Lewis stood naked with a butcher knife at his neck, that the player’s pants were pulled off and that someone tried to tie his hands with a belt.
When the player protested, Lewis told him, “he needed to chill out,” Whitney said. Lewis pressed the knife closer to his neck while Taylor fondled him, Whitney said.”
I am hoping there is a easy end to this one. I do have to say that the thugs have really emerged over the past five years downtown. Guys have been coming in from Greensboro, Durham, and far-out places such as Roxboro and Fayette Nam for a long time, but the incidents seem to get wilder and the crowd seems a lot rougher.
It was just a year ago that a kid was blown away with AKA-47 outside of Gotham, which is still unsolved. This past November we had a major melee that consisted of stabbings outside of ‘Blend’, which is the old movie complex (Ram 6?) that bordered Molly Maguire’s behind NCNB Plaza on Rosemary Street….(How’s that for an old school? I would love to hear more on that location.)
I would say that times are getting wilder, and the incidents are growing wilder. Then again, the Apple (”Kill”) Chill incidents between ‘90-’05 are a firm reminder on this end. My call is that when you put 25,000 people between the ages of 18-32 in a small town, things go down…
Yet, peoples, we have to get smarter…”People, people, we got to get over before we go under.”
Peace,
BD
