I just received an email wondering why I didn’t gush over Green on my last post…
Well, here it is, but I’ll qualify the gushing with the fact that I think both Green and Ginyard are playing incredible ball right now.
IWith Danny Green, my same hope is that by the February of his junior year, he would be playing a well-rounded game, and he deserves a tremendous amount of credit for elevating his game. For every bonehead play that he makes, he performs five steady minutes of ball with his defensive play. If he has gone cold, he focuses on the boards. If he’s off the play, he’s setting great picks. If he’s not on man, he’s providing great weak-side help.
He has become the human ‘jack-knife’ that was anticipated.
Now, call me crazy…Yet, at the end of the Clemson game, I often found myself saying give it to Green. He seems to be more comfortable with big possessions and he seems to create better shots than Ellington. More importantly, he’s a helluva free-throw shooter and gets to the line. What a great option he has become.
When Wayne Ellington struggles, Danny Green gives the Heels a solid third go-to guy, and as a fan, I have to say that I feel far more comfortable with him having the ball than I did with Reyshawn Terry or David Noel over the past two seasons…And those guys were seniors.
A true on-court jack-knife that we haven’t seen for the Heels since Ademola Oklaja and Dante Calabria. What a great advantage to have to for the Heels.
Strong Island,
