Mid-School ‘77 Fun

July 25th, 2008 · No Comments

The colors of ‘77…Why did we make the funk combo of simplicity and fresh colors so complex…?

After catching this post on “Sneaker Freaker,” I wanted to pass along this release to you. Who knows?..The funk and circumstance of the late ’70s is still ablaze with this collaboration from Vans and ClassicKicks in New York City. A lot of fruit there, but be sure to check these mid-school suede and canvas combos from Vans out.

As you can see these shoes were pulled from the pool-riding days described in Dogtown and Z-Boys and the California love of the ’70s. Puma did a great job with re-issuing the Clydes and keeping the original classic fresh colorways of the New York Knick colorways of dark blue/gray, orange/blue, white/orange, and the classic dark blue, red, and other suedes on the market. This blogga gave a half-hearted clap to Adidas for revising the Campus line. However, with these colorways and the rubber soles, an “A” grade is given for catching air on this re-design.

Now, can’t we get Nike to do the same with the Nike Blazer? Where the hell are the classic green, red, and royal blue Blazers from the late ’70s. What…? You sneak out a couple of 100, and that’s it? Now, we’re stuck with Ice Blue, Vanilla Ices, and florescent “Bright Cactus” Blazers…C’mon.

Where the hell are the mid-school cuts in a Paul Westphal/SoCal type of way? And can’t we get the thin swoosh back in play for a suede Bruin?

Aww what ‘evs…This blogga has gone down this path before…

Check out the ad that ran with the mid-school’s from 1977…Check out some of these colorways…

Great collab from ClassicKicks who run a very “true to the game” shop. “Johnny the Fox!”
